Mauve Dose

Mauve Dose is a large scale mural created by Mimosa Echard for a public commission of the Fonds cantonal d'art contemporain of Geneva (FCAC) at the Maternity of the Geneva University Hospitals. The tiles were made at Cercco, the ceramics department of the HEAD.

Mauve Dose is inscribed in Echard’s practice of sculpture, wich uses a great variety of materials and organic (flowers, roots, medicinal plants, insects, mushrooms, algae, lichens) and manufactured objects (cosmetics, drugs, food, packaging, etc). Her assemblages links these different classes of objects and their distinct (formal, cultural, symbolic, chemical...) registers, according to relations of exchange, likeness or equivalence.

At the Maternity, these multiple effects operate the formal and conceptual resolution of the work, as well as something that could be designated as its own internal life. These relations are a way of including the processes of fertility, reproduction, birth, and the care of the newborns in the vast logic of chemical and biological processes linking the inside of the body to the outside world.
